Charlie’s Kitchen is the second most-established institution in Harvard Square, and a favorite restaurant for families, students, and the whole Cambridge community. We offer a menu of high-quality classic and modern food, affordable and cooked to order and a full selection of local and imported beer with a full bar.
Our first floor features a 50’s-style diner with multiple screens for supporting Boston’s world-class sports teams. Our updated, heated, and covered Beer Garden attracts diners year round and offers dozens of draft beers and a full menu. Our upstairs lounge features an incredible jukebox, karaoke, trivia, and more community events, shows, entertainment — and of course our world famous cheeseburgers and great food and drink.
There’s something for everyone at Charlie’s Kitchen. And now, new chef/managers David Oshima and Derek Luangrath hope to bring even more for everyone.
Founded over 70 years ago, Charlie’s Kitchen is Harvard Square’s second-oldest institution and most classic bar, restaurant, and gathering place. With multiple levels of bar and restaurant including a year-round outdoor beer garden, 50’s style diner, and multiscreened karaoke lounge and event space for watching sports, having fun, and hanging with friends. The Charlie’s Double Cheeseburger is a Boston classic, and we’ve served it proudly to generations of Cambridge’s beautiful families, neighbors, and overachieving students.
Charlie’s Kitchen was always part of the community for us who live in and around Cambridge — me and my brother Chef David grew up down the street in Porter Square, Somerville. As a kid visiting I remember the challenge of eating a whole double cheeseburger, the excitement of getting a chocolate milkshake, and the bustling and active restaurant going on around us. Then I got to experience Charlie’s as a Harvard student: a first date, karaoke and beers, and the toughest trivia crowd to ever show up in a cheeseburger joint. I came here with my roommates for graduation — along with many others. Charlie’s has a special spot in our memory and in Harvard Square, and David and Derek are excited to share and continue its tradition as a place with something for everyone.
